This is going to be a strange posting, but on our recent trip to the Far East, we were both entertained by posters we found in toilets on etiquette and safety. It did feel creepy pulling out our mobile phones to snap pictures of these but the temptation was too much!

The first one below I found in a toilet in the airport at Kuala Lumpur. I particularly like the second box about the danger of washing your feet in the sink – very sound advice. In my 55 years of life, I cannot recall seeing anyone actually wash their feet in a sink in a public bathroom. Also, it is a sign of the times that you can use “Whatsapp” to post any complaints.

The second poster is more home-made affair. This was from a toilet in Singapore, hence the four languages. Quite clearly this is from the men’s toilet. I am sure there are plenty of women out there who would agree and think this sign should be posted in mixed-gender toilets stalls or even at home!

Below is another example of a poster from a women’s toilet in Singapore. It is very common in South East Asia to find stalls with squat toilets as well as traditional western style toilets. This sign is aimed at people who may have never experienced a western toilet and don’t know how to use them. The mind boggles at the potential catastrophes that could befall someone squatting on a toilet seat!
