Oregon: Portland – Bye & Bye (Review)

We are always on the lookout for new places to eat when we travel to Portland, Oregon – which happens frequently through the year. One place that has been on my list is Bye and Bye on Alberta Street. It is a real treat to find a bar that serves a totally vegan menu – saves having to ask a lot of questions when ordering our food!

Oregon: Ashland – Ruby’s (Eatery Review)

Established in 2011, Ruby’s is nestled away from Ashland’s busy high street on the border of the Historic Railroad District. They feature a wide variety of breakfast burritos and eclectic lunch sandwiches, including many vegetarian, vegan and gluten free options. Ruby’s also offers locally roasted organic coffee, espresso and a large selection of house-made refreshments (as well as beer, wine and cocktails).

Mexico: Quintana Roo – Los Robles (Review)

Los Robles is a bijou, brightly decorated cafe located on one of the main streets through the town. It looked so welcoming and luckily for us the one outside sitting area had just become available as we walked up. The menu had so many tasty options, but we wanted something very light to eat and were tempted by the vegan ceviche and mini empanadas, which came in a plate of three – so we ordered a mix.

Wisconsin: Fitchburg – Surya Cafe (Review)

Located inside the Perennial Yoga studio, Surya is a quaint little cafe. For my food options I decided to try the vegan cheese plate ; an almond chevre with olive tapande ( I am still trying to find a really good vegan cheese) served with gluten free crackers and the Southwest bowl, that comes with a base of forbidden rice topped with black beans and tasty mix of avocado, tomatoes, peppers and nutty nibbles. As for my drink I selected a smoothie.

I was really in the mood for some comfort food after fighting my way through the rush hour traffic out of Chicago O’Hare airport en route to Madison, Wisconsin. I consulted the trusty Happy Cow app on my phone and was excited to find the Pigs Mind brew pub that had an exclusive vegan menu located just outside of Rockford, Illinois.

Mexico: Quintana Roo; Tulum – Succulenta (Review)

I had thought that with its New Age reputation that Tulum would be bristling with vegan restaurants but when we checked out our trusted vegan guide, Happy Cow, we were a little surprised to see how few options there were. So, it didn’t take us too long to opt for Succulenta. Beware there are better options – see review on La Hoja Verde.

Mexico: Quintana Roo, Tulum – La Hoja Verde (Review)

Anyway we totally stuffed on the tamales we had only ten minutes before finished so we couldn’t force any more food down even if we had wanted to. But the food everyone was eating looked so good! So, sadly we had to move on.After about 30 minutes wandering around Tulum, we were feeling a bit down as the town had not lived up to our expectations. We decided we needed to drown our sorrows and went back to La Hoya Verde and try out their beer selection. And, we were not disappointed as they served us a delicious Mexican strong dark beer. This also gave us another opportunity to see what food was being served on other tables – it looked totally amazing.

Oregon: Bend – Riff Taproom (Review)

Bend, Oregon is a popular all-year destination for those who love the great outdoors with it ski resort, mountain bike trails, white water rafting, fishing and golf courses. A significant service industry has sprung up in the town to cater for the visitors and growing number of people who call this home. The tourism industry has also enabled the city to develop a large community of craft breweries to spring up – a total of 32 in Central Oregon and counting. So, this mean there are lots of pubs and taprooms to chose from!
