Virginia: Jamestown Settlement

Near the site of the original colony, Jamestown Settlement tells the story of 17th-century Virginia, from the arrival of English colonists in Jamestown in 1607 to the cultural encounters and events that planted the seeds of a new nation. I could not resist telling almost everyone we spoke to (which luckily for the sanity of our children was not too many people) that one the houses we had owned back in England was built in 1604 – three years before this settlement was established.

Wisconsin: Fitchburg – Surya Cafe (Review)

Located inside the Perennial Yoga studio, Surya is a quaint little cafe. For my food options I decided to try the vegan cheese plate ; an almond chevre with olive tapande ( I am still trying to find a really good vegan cheese) served with gluten free crackers and the Southwest bowl, that comes with a base of forbidden rice topped with black beans and tasty mix of avocado, tomatoes, peppers and nutty nibbles. As for my drink I selected a smoothie.

Oregon: McMinnville – Evergreen Aviation and Space Museum

Located near to the small Oregon town of McMinnville is the excellent Evergreen Aviation & Space Museum. I discovered this place a few years back and have been fortunate to visit on a couple of occasions. It is one of those places that really exceeded my expectations – I had not expected to find such and excellent collection of aircraft and space vessels in a relatively remote place (it is a good hour or so from Portland, Oregon).

Virginia: Colonial Williamsburg

The State of Virginia, or more correctly the Commonwealth of Virginia has had a major role on the course of US history. It is here that Jamestown, the first permanent settlement in the original Thirteen Colonies, was established. So, in our journeys through the state it would been remiss of us not to spend a goodly amount of time exploring the historical heritage of Virginia. One such place of pilgrimage is Colonial Williamsburg.
