Centrally located in Portland, close to all the action the Society Hotel offers a range of accommodation to suit most budgets; from bunk room to private rooms with ensuite bathrooms
Oregon: Portland – The HI Portland Northwest hostel is a great base to explore Portland (Review)

Living in Oregon we visit Portland 2 or 3 times a year and are always on the lookout for places to stay that are convenient to downtown and are not too expensive. On our last visit to the ‘Rose City’ we decided to try out the HI Portland Northwest hostel. This place is located in a largely residential area, so it is a fairly quiet place to stay but is only a few minutes walk from the popular Pearl District, which is full of quaint stores and plenty of interesting places to eat. Also, a few blocks away is NW 21st Avenue which has a great selection of bars and restaurants, including Eb & Bean an ice cream parlour that to our delight had some great vegan options.
There is no onsite parking so you have to find somewhere on the surrounding streets which we had no problem with during our stay.
The hostel has a range of accommodation to suit most budgets; from the bunk rooms to private rooms with ensuite bathrooms. We decided to go for a private room with a queen bed and a bathroom. Our room was very spacious. It had high ceilings and was modestly furnished with a sitting chair and a wonderful queen-sized bed … and that was about it. The room has double bay windows on two sides which made the room feel very light and airy. The bathroom was smallish with a shower, which we loved. All in all the room was great, the location was perfect.

This is a really well-equipped hostel. The common areas such as the lounges, kitchen and dining rooms are spaces, clean and very well equipped. There is also an enclosed outdoor patio which is wonderful, especially in the summer months. Also, onsite there is a cafe which serves food from breakfast through to quite late in the evening. As it also serves the local community the standard of decor and service is outstanding. There are a lot of healthy eating options and they also serve local wines and craft beers (yummy!)

Overall we were really impressed with this hostel in terms of location, the rooms (at least the one we had) and the facilities. It was also fairly kind on the pocket compared to other options in the city. We highly recommend this place if you are planning a visit to Portland, Oregon.
