Off The Griddle is a vegetarian -friendly vegan restaurant serving up an ever-widening array of comfort foods.
As with many of my favourite food experiences in Portland, Off The Griddle started life as part of the City’s vibrant food cart scene, before transitioning to become a bricks-and-mortar establishment.
Located in a less trendy part of town, South-East of downtown Off The Griddle is a classic comfort food restaurant. My idea of comfort food is hearty breakfasts and wholesome lunches that make you feel warm and full inside. Off The Griddle manages to fit the bill with its breakfast plates, waffles, burritos and sandwiches. Yummy!

The storefront is brightly coloured, a theme that continues inside. There are not a huge number of seats inside. You can sit outside, but when we visited it was a little too cold for that. So, during busy times – such as breakfast at the weekends it gets busy so you might expect to have to wait … and the only place to do this is outside! When we went it was Sunday breakfast and there were a good 20 people waiting outside by the time we left!
I always love exploring a new menu and to be honest I could have happily eaten everything on the menu – but my waistline is far too big already. So, I settled for the Full Mess, comprising of hashbrowns, vegan sausage, greens, herb tofu and diced tomato all topped with a hollandaise sauce. As myself and Karen usually split our meals she went with our “desert” option of Pumpkin Cheesecake Waffle topped with hazelnuts and sweet cream.
