I often travel to Portland, Oregon and am always on the lookout to try a new place to stop at. I had discovered the Alberta Petite Hotel, located on my favourite street in Portland – Alberta Street – a while back and had been looking forward to an opportunity to stay there. So, finally the day came and I was not disappointed.
Calling this a petite hotel is very apt as it only had four rooms; three on the second floor and one in the basement. I had booked us into the Spruce Room, a comfortably sized en-suite room on the second floor. The bed was amazingly comfortable, which was just as well as I had just finished a week of travelling and was looking forward to a couple of nights wholesome sleep. The room also had a huge closet which you could probably have slept a family of four – a slight exaggeration but it was spacious. The bathroom was great with a lovely big shower.
The public spaces downstairs were very comfortable with a living room, dining area and a spacious kitchen, equipped with some fabulous appliances – I especially loved the kettle and toaster. The breakfast is self-serve with bread, oatmeal, fruit and cereal available. One thing I really liked about the hotel is that the owners clearly love the space – it is so well presented and welcoming.
The Alberta Petite Hotel is located in the heart of Alberta Street, one of the liveliest and cosmopolitan neighbourhoods in Portland. There are oodles of bars, restaurants and shops within spitting distance. If you are vegan like ourselves then there are some great options such as Back to Eden, a few steps from the hotel and the Bye and Bye a 10-minute walk away.
Getting around Portland is very easy. We tend to walk a lot. It is around a 3-mile walk to get to downtown – which takes us around an hour. Probably, the best way to get around is by public transport – Portland’s system is great. There are buses that pass right outside the Alberta Petite Hotel and with a couple of changes, you can be in the Pearl District or downtown in 30 minutes or so. You could drive of course but parking is limited and pricey.
If you are looking for somewhere different to stay during a short trip to Portland and want a comfortable, cosy and trendy place away from the downtown, then I recommend looking at the Alberta Petite Hotel.
