South Africa: Knysna – Two Angels

Situated at the water’s edge of the Knysna Lagoon, this magnificent 6 Bedroom House, plus 3 sea-facing cottages, offers the very best location on the South African coastline

Knysna is a small town that is on the southern cape coast along the Garden Route. The town is built around a lagoon or tidal lake that connects to the Indian Ocean by a narrow inlet in the cliffs that line this part of the coast. On the eastern end of the opening of the inlet into the sea is an area simply called the ‘Heads’ where our stop-over for the night, the Two Angels guesthouse was located.

We arrived at Two Angels in the late afternoon, and the sun was out. This guest house only has a handful of rooms, and the property is stunning. We had a studio, with a balcony that had stunning views across the lagoon. The room was beautifully decorated, in a European style. When we arrived the owner, Robert – a Mauritian, offered us to buy a bottle of wine from a local vineyard – and the thought of sitting out on this balcony sipping a glass of wine was too tempting to refuse.

Before settling down for the evening we decided to walk up to the top of the ‘Heads’. It was a steep climb, which took about 15 minutes, but the views were amazing and well worth the effort of navigating the hill.
